The Pidgey Method: How To Level Up Very Quickly In Pokémon GO
There aren’t a whole lot of ways to get an experience advantage in this game, but there is one: the Lucky Egg, which grants double experience for half an hour. The Lucky Egg is a premium item, so if you feel like spending some money you can just load yourself up and ignore this guide. You do get some Lucky Eggs for leveling up naturally, however, and they can occasionally show up at PokéStops. Luckily, this method only requires a few, because it attempts to take maximum advantage of those precious thirty minutes.
So this method concerns all those endless hordes of Pidgey you’ve been catching. Others, like Rattata, Weedle and Caterpie work just fine too, but Pidgey gets the highest marks for its total ubiquity and relatively low first-tier evolution cost. Basically, you’ll want to horde all the Pidgey you can find, catching Pidgey until you’re bloated with candies and little useless birds. When you’re full to the brim and ready to burst, pop a Lucky Egg and go nuts evolving them. In an ideal world, you can be evolving Pidgey nonstop for those 30 minutes.
There are other things you can do to get XP with a Lucky Egg — catching Pokémon and hatching eggs, for example — but none of them provide quite the same gains as evolution. You’ll want to transfer some, but not all, of those Pidgey to maximize your experience, and luckily, a redditor made a calculator to help you figure out the perfect strategy for getting as much as you can out of those limited Lucky Eggs. With patience, you can blow through several levels at once on a single egg: I did a variant of this method that also used some of my more expensive evolutions and went from 16 to 19 in no time.
It doesn’t quite answer the question of what to do after you’ve reached level 20 or so, but it will at least help you get there.
